Moby Goes for a Deadfall Trap in Death Valley

One of the most amazing things we’ve stumbled upon in Death Valley is what appears to be a deadfall trap used by American Indians to capture small animals. Made of rocks and sticks, it would have been bated with something like mesquite seeds. We found this far from any road or trail in a place that seldom sees visitors. How long has this been here? Who knows . . .

Here’s the basic idea:

Deadfall Trap Construction. When the animal tugs at the bait, the rock falls.
